Playground Grand Opening at Beatty Early Learning Center
YCS and WISD celebrate the grand opening of new infant and toddler playground

On Monday, May 12, 2025, Ypsilanti Community Schools (YCS) and the Washtenaw Intermediate School District (WISD) held a grand opening ceremony for the brand new infant and toddler playground at Beatty Early Learning Center. The playground was installed specifically for the school’s recently opened Early Head Start classroom which serves young children ages 18-36 months old.
“Thank you to our families who trust us and our teachers to nurture our scholars,” shared YCS Superintendent Alena Zachery-Ross. “This playground dedication is about embracing our scholars and their futures.”
The school welcomed its first class of Early Head Start students earlier this year in January 2025. Prior to the new Early Head Start classroom, Beatty ELC offered preschool classes for three- and four-year-olds. The playground has developmentally appropriate equipment for 18-36 month children and is a welcome addition to the school.
“This playground was designed specifically with our littlest learners in mind,” said Keynon Atchinson, Principal at Beatty ELC. “Now that the weather is warmer, we are excited to have a dedicated space for our youngest scholars to play, learn and grow together.”
